Nottingham disco for Mums and Kids

Friends Sarah Davie and Hannah Page always loved dancing at nightclubs as youngsters.

But when the two former school pals had kids of their own, they feared their clubbing days were over.

So the young mums set up Boogie Babies Nottingham, a daytime disco where parents can take their young ones to dance in a nightclub.

"We used to go clubbing together but never imagined we would end up taking our children," said mum-of-two Sarah, 34, from Wollaton, who picked up the idea while visiting America.

"Having been to discos as a parent and as youngsters it felt a bit weird to start off with. But it's quite a liberating feeling.

"The kids eyes really light up. They love chasing all the lights and the music. It is just a really nice atmosphere.

"It is for families to get together and do something a little bit different."

The first Nottingham event takes place today at the Isis nightclub from 2pm to 5pm. It is for mums and dads for babies and kids up to seven.

Music is played at 80 decibels - a level considered to be safe for children's ears.

Hannah, 34, a mum-of-two from Belper, in Derbyshire, said: "Being a parent, you find yourself spending a lot of time on church hall floors - which is great - but we thought this opens it up for the whole family.

"It is quite big in the States. We thought we could just jump on the bandwagon.

"We just wanted to bring children into an adult environment. So rather than nursery rhymes it is feel-good chart music - classics that everybody knows and children can dance to."

Sarah and Hannah want to organise one Boogie Babies event in Nottingham per month but would make it fortnightly if there was demand.

There are 600 places at Isis, in Redfield Way, Lenton, and the bar will serve teas, coffees, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks for non-driving adults.
